Hurtado Measures Up On CD
Mark Bialczak, Syracuse Post
Standard Newspaper 02-13-2005
James Hurtado has heard the comparisons to Los
Lonely Boys, Carlos Santana, and even Sublime. "That's
fine. I like them all," the singer - guitarist -
songwriter from Syracuse says.
In his 13 songs on the new Red Brick Records release "Spanglo
13," Hurtado uses his versatile guitar and attractive singing
voice to indeed sound at times like all of the above.
"Simply Say" echoes the cool beauty of Los Lonely Boys' monster
summer hit "Heaven". "La Lunica" rings with a rocking
Latin guitar torch reminiscent of Santana. "Body's On
Fire" carries a rich rock - pop vibe much like Sublime.
Nevertheless, Hurtado never compromises his individuality.
"Spanglo 13" pulse with hip-hop verve, English and Spanish
lyrics with aplomb and would sound just fine nationwide on the
new mass radio format that concentrates on latin-influenced
music.
Hurtado came to Syracuse starting in 2003 to make this record on
Syracuse label Red Brick Records, collaborating with Sal Chisari
and Rob Boogie at the RBR Media Studios. |
